LeBron James Joins Polymarket as Prediction Markets Court Sports' Biggest Stars: Here's What We Know

On Saturday, four-time NBA champion and four-time Olympic medalist LeBron James announced an upcoming partnership with Polymarket, the prediction market platform.

James posted a 14-second video on X showing him exiting an elevator at "Polymarket HQ," with floor buttons labeled sports, politics, crypto, economy, weather and technology.

The caption read, "Welcome to Polymarket HQ. Coming soon."

Athletes Increasingly Bet on Prediction Markets

The deal adds the future Hall of Famer to a growing roster of athletes entering the sector. Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bryson DeChambeau and Lionel Messi signed with rival platform Kalshi earlier this year.

Polymarket, an online prediction market where users trade shares on the outcomes of real-world events such as elections, sports and economic data, positions itself as the world's biggest prediction market.

Tennis star Maria Sharapova has also promoted Polymarket on Instagram.

James' addition to the prediction market sector reflects an upward trend of star athletes taking on various roles in the industry. This partnership would make him the first NBA athlete to sign an individual partnership with Polymarket.

Deal Terms Remain Unclear

James' exact role hasn't been disclosed. Polymarket responded to his post with, "Thanks for stopping by our HQ."

A company spokesperson said more details would follow Tuesday, adding the firm hopes to leverage "James' love for the sport" as football season nears, according to The Athletic report.
